About the Workshop

McCarthy’s own book, Tailor Your Fiction Manuscript in 30 Days, participants will learn how to help the reader become comfortable in their character’s identity. • As a Coast Guard brat, I lived in such exotic places as Haiti, Thailand, and Guantanamo Bay Cuba, from which I was evacuated during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
  • I use my M initial in my name because I don’t want to me confused with a Brit author named Zoe McCarthy.
  • I take sabbaticals to our lake cabin to write and hope to host spiritual and writers retreats there after some updates.

Meet ACFW Virginia 2019 Faculty — Keynote Speaker, Lisa Carter

ACFW Virginia is pleased to introduce our 2019 Conference Keynote Speaker, Lisa Carter.

In our general session, Lisa will be presenting both an inspirational and an instructional workshop.

Inspirational Keynote: Writing From Deep Places

Instructional Workshop Title: Hooks, Lines, and Sinkers

About the Workshop

The very first sentence of a story can be extremely powerful. It can stick with you for days, weeks, even years. End your novel poorly and you’ll spoil the whole book; end it well and you will leave the reader satisfied, perhaps even moved. In this workshop, Lisa will review the secret to crafting great opening and closing lines.

Mentor Appointments

Lisa is also taking mentor appointments during the conference. Sign up to chat with this talented, multi-published author about your current work in progress or ask questions about the publishing industry or marketing advice. Click here to schedule an appointment with Lisa.

**Mentor appointments are open to paid conferees only. To register, click the link below.

About Lisa

Lisa Carter is the bestselling author of multiple romantic suspense novels, historical novellas and a contemporary Coast Guard series. The Stronghold won the 2017 Daphne du Maurier Award. Under a Turquoise Sky won the 2015 Carol Award for Romantic Suspense and Beyond the Cherokee Trail was a 4 1/2 star Romantic Times Top Pick. Lisa enjoys traveling to romantic locales and researching her next exotic adventure. When not writing, she loves spending time with her family and teaching writing workshops. A native North Carolinian, she has strong opinions on barbecue and ACC basketball.
